History
The company is based in Brisbane Australia and commenced developing the Cityfood Growers venture in 2006. The web site was released in 2008 and now has members all over Australia and with the new site released in June 2009 expands its market to USA and New Zealand for localisation of site features. The founder of the business is Peter Kearney, an experienced city based food gardener and web entrepreneur with a passion for organic and biodynamic gardening.
The company has expanded it services in 2009 to include organic gardening content for schools, biodynamic gardening workshops and urban agriculture consulting including assistance with development of community networks of local hobby food growers in and around cities.
Focus of Activities
The Cityfood Growers venture is clearly focused on building the capacity of individuals to grow more of their own food and contribute to a localised food system. This will provide the benefit of greatly reducing their carbon footprint, bringing better health and helping to sustain communities via connections with others who are also growing their own food.
Notable Achievements
Launch of our web site in 2008 and connection with a large number of food gardeners around Australia, with capacity to extend this reach to other countires of the world in 2009 with our site upgrade. Release of our multi-user schools access in 2009 with integration of our web site into high school horticulture courses.
Commenced a local hobby growers group in Brisbane, Australia, which now includes over 50 hobby food gardeners who plan to reach a capacity level for supplying locally grown food in their neighbourhoods.
