Food, Land & People
Food, Land & People (FLP), established in 1988, is based in Chandler, Arizona. Food, Land & People is a nonprofit organization committed to helping people of all ages better understand the interrelationships among agriculture, the environment, and people of the world. Food, Land & People's science- and social sciences-based curriculum, Resources for Learning, currently serves Pre-K to 12th grade students throughout the United States. The curriculum consists of 55 hands-on lessons, developed and tested by more than a thousand educators. The subjects range from environmental science and stewardship ("Don't Use It All Up!") to human populations and land use issues ("What Will the Land Support?")
As of 12/31/08, 41,975 educators have been trained to use Food, Land & People's lessons in 28 states. It is estimated that they have reached over 11.6 million students since 1998. Food, Land & People has pioneered an innovative dissemination model based on state coalition building and facilitator training workshops. Twenty-seven state coalitions are currently introducing Resources for Learning to educators. Food, Land & People's goal is to have coalitions formed in all 50 states by 2012. Within five years, Food, Land & People's educational resources will reach one million students annually.
Food, Land & People develops and disseminates Resources for Learning and sponsors an annual symposium on current topics affecting agriculture and the environment. Food, Land & People addresses critical needs of agriculture, education, and the environment. Food, Land & People is committed to providing students and people of all ages the information they will need to make thoughtful choices for the future.
FLP envisions a future in which all people recognize the interdependence of agriculture, the environment, and human needs and work cooperatively to enhance sustainable agricultural practices and informed consumer choices.
