History

Tasmanian Conservation Trust Environmental History:

The Tasmanian Conservation Trust was established in 1968. Its first environmental campaigns were used to assure foresight and wisdom in regards to natural resource, water and land usage in Tasmania. It has since grown to address varied environmental issues and green concerns within the region.

The Tasmanian Conservation Trust aims to protect Tasmania's cultural environment, plants, eco systems and archaeological sites.

Current and Future Tasmanian Conservation Trust Campaigns

  • Any environmental issues in relation to fisheries management, water pollution, aquaculture and marine reserves
  • Opposing the Gunns Proposed Pulp Mill
  • Promoting the D'Entrecasteaux Channel Aquaculture Expansion
  • Opposing recreational gill net fishing in Tasmania
  • Protecting sea urchins in Tasmanian reefs
  • Advocating the Tasmanian Marine Protected Areas Strategy

Governance & Financial

Tasmanian Conservation Trust Environmental Governance/Structure/Size:

The Tasmanian Conservation Trust is a regional, environmental, conservation, non-profit organization that has more than four hundred members and numerous volunteers. Its daily operations and go green, environmental campaigns are overseen by its council of elected members, with executive level decisions being made by Christian Bell, the trust's CEO. Its head office is situated in Hobart, Tasmania, and is operated during regular business hours by staff members. Many of the Tasmanian Conservation Trust staff are part-timers or volunteers.
