AirWalk Lodge open for business

A BACKPACKER from New Zealand and a couple with a baby from NSW were the first guests to enjoy the affordable family friendly accommodation at Tahune AirWalk Lodge which opened for business on Wednesday.

Builders put the finishing touches to 25-bed complex this week and Adventure Forests manager Roland Schibig said the first guests had been impressed by the accommodation and facilities.

“The guests found the lodge to be warm and welcoming,” he said.

“They were able to relax and enjoy themselves in front of the open fire in the family area and make use of the kitchen and dining facilities to prepare dinner and breakfast.”

Mr Schibig said the AirWalk Lodge was ideal for families and groups.

“The entire lodge can be booked out exclusively by a company or a group of friends for just $750 per night,” he said.

“It is right next to the Tahune AirWalk site and guests have the luxury of taking their time to fully experience the AirWalk attractions and activities including the bird’s eye view from the tree canopy and the 45 metre high cantilever over the Huon and Picton Rivers.

“Guests can try out the new six kilometre mountain bike track around the Airwalk. The easy gravel road gives way to a flat track through dense vegetation and button grass and the edge Picton River is a great place to take a break and watch out for platypus.”

The track is suitable for advanced riders and children over 10 years old. Guest can bring their own bikes or hire one for $25 for two hours

Another popular activity is possum spotting at around the lodge at night. Headlamps can be purchased at the cafe which also sells a selection of diner packs made entirely from local produce and stocks items such as breakfast cereals and basic toiletries.

The lodge is also ideally situated as a base for a visit to the newly refurbished Geeveston Forest and Heritage Centre with its fascinating insights into the forests of southern Tasmania.

The AirWalk Lodge has three bedroom wings with a total of eight rooms including:
• three bunk rooms each with two pairs of bunks
• two family rooms each with a double and single bed
• two triple rooms each with single bed and one set of bunks
• One room with a double bed suitable for people with disabilities.

Prices are $30 per person in the four bunk rooms, $90 per room for the family and triple rooms and $80 for the double room.

All house guests receive discounted entry to the Tahune AirWalk of just $10. Normal price is $24.
