Biodiversity

The term "biodiversity "was coined in the mid 1980's as a condensing of the term "biological diversity". Biodiversity refers not only to the number of different species in an area, but also the different types of ecosystems throughout the world. Biodiversity is not only crucial to maintaining the stability of an eco-system, it's also an indicator of the environmental health of an area.

With the rapid extinction of many species and the destruction of biodiversity hotspots such as the Amazon, Earth is rapidly losing many important species by the hour. Many wild plants provide improvements to domestic crops, and also provide a basis for lifesaving medicine. Without biodiversity, we lose all these opportunities and more.
