Food Additives

Using food additive to preserve food over time has actually been done for centuries, usually in the form of adding salt, or using vinegar to pickle vegetables. It is only in the last century with the discovery of many new chemicals that food additives have become controversial.

Now additives are put into almost all processed food for a variety of reasons including firming, preserving, adding color, and flavoring our food. Concerns have arisen that these compounds can have negative effects such as cancer, digestive problems, and neurological disorders in children such as ADD.
