Fossil Fuels

Fossil fuels are the result of millions of years of heat and pressure in the Earth’s crust being exerted on fossilized remains of dead plants and animals. The production of these fuels takes millions of years and people currently use fossil fuels far more quickly than they can be replenished.

A recent study found that 86% of energy processes on the planet use fossil fuels, which is a non-renewable resource. Fossil fuels also dump 21.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the air annually, contributing vastly to global warming. Plants and natural processes can only handle about half that amount of carbon dioxide per year.
