Ozone Depletion

The ozone is a layer of oxygen surrounding the planet which helps block harmful UVB rays from the sun which could potentially damage life on the planet. Two types of ozone depletion have arisen since the 1970's. One indicates a four percent decline in the amount of ozone in the stratosphere of the planet.

The other involves pinpointed ozone holes above the polar caps, which could lead to further melting of these caps. Other consequences could include increased skin cancer in humans and a loss of sensitive flora. Ozone depletion is caused by CFC'c (chlorofluorocarbons) which had been commonly found in aerosol sprays. Today they are banned in many countries.
