Sunshine Coast Environment Day Festival a Massive Success
The World Environment Day Festival on the Sunshine Coast last weekend was a massive success. With the Sunshine Coast turning on a beautifully sunny day, thousands of festival goers turned out for the entertainment, food and to learn about all things green and sustainable!
The atmosphere was brilliant with plenty of hands on activities keeping kids (and their parents) entertained for hours. There were many different workshops involving animals, gardening and eco living. Local experts presented land and water bugs, land and water weeds, Glossy Black Cockatoos and advice on native plants.
Local performers and world music bands took to the stage and created an amazing festival atmosphere throughout the day. Aboriginal dancers, didgeridoo players, musical rhythms and sublime melodies had punters dancing around the university campus. The impressive line-up included Tijuana Cartel, Harii Bandhu, The Express, French Butler Called Smith and Jambezi.
Another highlight was the very informative speakers program. Many authors, journalists, eco celebrities and politicians shared their knowledge on many environmental and sustainable living topics.
SuperGreenMe was proudly exhibited and attracted a lot of attention. It was great to get positive feedback about the social networking site and it potential to play a major part in the green community.
Next year is the festivals 30th anniversary, and I am looking forward to it already!
The Environment Festival encompassed a dynamic program to gather the broader community under an interactive ‘umbrella’ of sustainability education and action. The Sunshine Coast World Environment Day Festival 2009 was proudly presented by the Sunshine Coast Environment Council, SEQ Catchments, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and the University of the Sunshine Coast.
