Sustainable Forestry

The goal behind sustainable forestry is to meet the growing global demands for lumber while maintaining the health and biodiversity of the world's forests. Several methods are used to achieve this goal, including replanting and selective cutting instead of clear cutting.

Companies who practice sustainable forestry often work in conjunction with forest management, local populations, and ecologists to determine what is best for the forest before logging. Recently a growing trend of third-party forest certification has been growing. These third-parties assess the forest and determine whether or not the forest is being responsibly managed, and if products coming from the forest are being created efficiently.
